Waiting For A Marketing Opportunity Is Deadly!

Always take the marketing initiative where there is an opportunity–waiting is deadly. This is even more important in the day of the Internet.

We must keep in mind that there is really “nothing new under the sun.” Certainly, there are new items, but the basics from which most things arise have been around for longer than most of have been alive. What does change is how we employ the resources we have around us.

Likewise, the sequence of changes or ideas have the effect of triggering similar thoughts in creative minds across the society fairly simultaneously. Look at the effect that some tragic news events have on disturbed people. When some event is reported, there are sometimes “copycat” killings, suicides, or robberies.  It is as though the copycats had not thought of committing such acts until they saw someone else doing that or something similar.

Back to more pleasant thoughts.

When a good opportunity or idea presents itself, if you decide it is something you should take advantage of, do so immediately!

The longer you wait to take action the more time you give your competition to seize the advantage ahead of you.  You want to be the person making things happen not the one watching what happens much less wondering what has happened.  Believe me, if you fail to take advantage of such opportunities someone else will and you do not want to be at their mercy.

I’m sure we have all seen business people who always appear to be on the “high ground.”  They appear to step from mountain peak to mountain peak while their competitors are forced to react by clawing and scratching their ways up the mountains.  About the time they get to the top having spent a lot of time, effort, and money, the standard setter is on to the next peak.

What that person is doing is always looking for the next opportunity in his or her business and quickly taking advantage of it while others are “considering” it. 

I urge you to consider the opportunities you have in your marketplace and quickly make a decision about seizing it or passing it by–for a specific reason–rather than allowing your competition to victimize you due to your own lack of action.  Life is too short for this type of error.
